Hey there, and Happy New Year! It's been a while since we last talked, and I wanted to catch you up on what's been going on. Life has thrown your girl some major curveballs these past two months which led me to go on a much-needed but unplanned hiatus. As much as I dreaded it, taking that break was essential and I feel so much better :)

So in the spirit of resetting and grounding myself, I'd like to share five valuable lessons I learned in 2023 (some of which I learned on hiatus). These are lessons that I believe will empower both you and me and help us conquer 2024. These lessons come from various aspects of my life, including family, friends, and social media. I've found these lessons to be super helpful, and I believe they can resonate with everyone. So, without further ado, here are the five lessons that I hope will inspire us both to kill it in 2024 (in no particular order, by the way).

Stand firm in your beliefs; don't compromise for what you truly desire.

Maintaining standards doesn't make you bougie or stuck up; it shows that you have a clear vision of the quality of life you aspire to. I have a fortune cookie slip tucked behind my phone case that reads, "You know where you are going and how to get there." The emphasis is on "you" and "know." Only you, and God ( or whatever higher spiritual force you believe in) understand what's best for you and what you genuinely desire. Don't let negativity from others sway you. Those who discourage you are often envious of your audacity to dream big. Stay true to yourself; it's your life, and you know how you want to live it.

You don't have to excel at everything.

Your favorite artists, athletes, designers, etc., have all had their share of failures, whether it's a bad song or a rough season. Yet, these moments don't diminish your perception of their greatness. Extend the same grace to yourself. We truly learn the most when we face challenges. Striving for perfection all the time is unrealistic and leads to burnout. Embrace your mistakes; they're part of the journey. Remember, everyone starts somewhere, so don't give up on yourself too quickly.

Avoid dwelling on situations that haven't happened yet.

If you're an anxious girly like me, you know we have the tendency to overthink and psych ourselves out over situations that haven't even happened yet. Resist this self-sabotage. Dwelling on the negative only holds you back from achieving greatness. Learn to live in the present and refrain from obsessing over an uncertain future. Stressing about something that hasn't happened is counterproductive and will stress you out even more than the reality that may actually happen.

Create space.

As we navigate adulthood with work and relationships, it's easy to overlook and forget the joyous aspects of life that fuel our inner child. Don't let go of those elements of yourself; instead, make room for them. Whether it's painting, singing, dancing, learning, reading, knitting, building—carve out space for the things that make you giddy and smiley. All work and no play isn't a way to live life.

Trust that everything will fall into place.

What's meant for you will find its way, and what isn't will naturally fade away. In a spiritual sense, your path is already laid out, and what aligns with your journey will inevitably come to you.

And with that, I wish you a fantastic 2024, filled with achievements you once deemed unattainable. Leave negative self-talk, doubt, and imposter syndrome behind in the previous year. This is your year, and I believe we're going to thrive!

Until next time, xo. - Jaelyn <3
